The canvas

A screen that is also a building.

The Exosphere is the outer shell of the Sphere in Las Vegas: roughly 580,000 square feet of programmable LED, made of around 1.2 million LED pucks. It is the largest LED screen in the world, and it is round.

That changes how a film has to be made. The audience isn't sitting in front of it — they're on the Strip, on the highway, in a hotel room across the street, in a plane on approach to the city. A Sphere campaign has to read from every one of those places at once.

What we've learned

What the Exosphere asks for.

Eleven campaigns in, these are the rules we design by from the first board:

  • Read from a mile awayFine detail and thin type disappear at distance. We build around big shapes, strong silhouettes and clear contrast — the detail is a reward for the people standing close.
  • A sphere, not a rectangleWhat looks right on a flat monitor bends on a curved surface. We judge every shot on a model of the Sphere itself, not on a frame.
  • No soundThe exterior is silent. The idea has to land in pictures alone, in the first seconds, for someone who only looks up once.
  • Scale is the joke, and the dramaA character, a product or a creature that fills a building is the point of the medium. We stage everything for that moment of size.

Process

How a Sphere job runs with us.

Most of our Sphere work comes through agencies, and we slot into their schedule rather than the other way round.

  1. Concept boardsWe like to be part of the idea. We start with boards and styleframes made for the Sphere's shape, not adapted to it later.
  2. Look developmentMaterials, light and colour, tested at Sphere scale before animation begins.
  3. 3D and simulationAnimation, effects and simulation in Cinema 4D and Houdini, by the same small team from start to finish.
  4. RenderingOn our own 20-machine, 40-GPU farm — so a late change doesn't depend on someone else's queue.
  5. DeliveryFinal frames to the agency's and the venue's technical specification.

Questions

Before you book us.

Do you work with agencies or directly with brands?

Both. Our Sphere campaigns so far were made with agencies, as the animation and CGI studio behind the idea. We also work directly with brands that want a partner for concept and production.

Can you help with the idea, or only the production?

We prefer to be in early. A short brief and a slot date are enough to start — we can develop the concept, boards and styleframes with you before production begins.

How long does a Sphere campaign take?

It depends on the length and complexity of the piece. Tell us your air date in the brief and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits — and what would make it fit if it doesn't.

Can the same film be adapted for other screens?

Yes. We regularly cut the same world for vertical formats — towers, phones, totems and social — so a Sphere campaign can run beyond Las Vegas.

Where are you based, and what language do you work in?

In Istanbul, working with clients from the US to Saudi Arabia, in English or Turkish.

Other large formats

Beyond the Sphere.

Got a Sphere slot?

The biggest screen on Earth. Let's fill it.
